On-Site Coding Program

For grades 4–8 (ages 9–13).

This on-site term-based program introduces students to the world of computer programming and is designed to foster creativity and imagination. During the weekly workshops students will explore various computer programming languages.

This program allows students to:

  • Be innovative, creative and to explore the world of computer programming and its many applications.
  • Use code to build a program from start to finish.
  • Explore the requirements and skills of a computer programmer.


  • This is a subsidized program.
  • Students can register at any time before and during the term. Registration is open until each class is filled.
  • Open to students in grades 4-8 (ages 9-13).
  • Program materials will be provided to students.
  • The Coding program is available for three 8-week terms during the 2022- 2023 school year, and are held at Tropicana Community Services offices at 1385 Huntingwood Drive, Scarborough. Classes are every Saturday from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
    • Fall Term: October 29 – December 17 – Full
    • Winter Term: January 14 – March 4
    • Spring Term: March 21 – May 13
  • There will be no classes on Family Day, March Break, Easter Monday, and Victoria Day.
  • A representative from TAST Academy will facilitate the program classes.
  • A certificate of completion will be awarded at the end of each term.
  • Spaces are limited.

Program Goals:

  • Provide students with the support, resources, and tools needed to develop their interest and abilities in the study of coding.
  • Build self-confidence, self-respect, and enthusiasm for education.
  • Help students build strong studying and learning techniques.
  • Encourage students to develop strong collaborative and team-building skills.
