This policy has been established in compliance with Regulation 191/11, “Integrated Accessibility Standards” under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and aligns with Tropicana Community Services Organization’s commitment to treat all employees in a manner that respects their dignity and independence.
These standards are intended to increase accessibility and break down barriers for persons with disabilities, in the areas of information, employment, and communication.
Commitment
Tropicana Community Services Organization (TCSO) is committed to treating all people in a manner that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. We believe in integration and equal opportunity. We are committed to meeting the needs of any person with a disability in a timely manner and will do so by preventing and removing barriers as required under AODA legislation.
Multi-Year Accessibility Plan
TCSO has developed and will maintain and document a Multi-Year Accessibility Plan outlining its strategy to prevent and remove barriers from its workplace and to improve opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The Multi-Year Accessibility Plan is posted on TCSO’s website and will be reviewed and updated every three (3) years.
Upon request, TCSO will provide a copy of the Multi-Year Accessibility Plan in an accessible format.
2019 to Present
In 2019 TCSO updated policies and procedures on providing services in an accessible manner to persons with disabilities. These policies and procedures are documented and accessible to all staff, stakeholders, and community members upon request.
In 2020 TCSO established a multi-year plan for communicating with persons with disabilities. This plan is documented and available to all staff, stakeholders, and community members upon request.
In 2021 TCSO established and integrated a documented plan on the procurement of goods and services with consideration for persons with disabilities. TCSO also ensured that Web content conforms to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 at level AA.
Training Employees and Volunteers
TCSO ensures that the training is provided on the requirements referred to in the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulations (IASR) and will continue to provide training on the Human Rights Code as it pertains to persons with disabilities to:
- All employees and volunteers
- All persons who provide services to TCSO or on behalf of TCSO
The training will be appropriate to the duties of the employees, volunteers, and other individuals. When changes are made to the accessibility policies, training will be provided, and records of training will be kept.
Accessible Programs and Services
TCSO is dedicated to providing accessible programs and services to meet the diverse needs of the Black, African, and Caribbean communities and others in need in Ontario. TCSO will make every effort to ensure that our activities, events, and resources are inclusive and considerate of different abilities.
Accessible Facilities
TCSO is committed to providing accessible physical spaces for our programs and events. We will strive to eliminate barriers and make our facilities welcoming and usable for everyone.

TCSO is committed to communicating with people in ways that meet their needs with dignity. This includes providing information in accessible formats, ensuring our website is accessible as well as offering alternative communication methods when necessary.

Employment Standards
Recruitment
TCSO has informed its employees and the public about the availability of accommodation for applicants with disabilities in its recruitment process.
Recruitment and Selection Process
TCSO notifies applicants when they are individually selected to participate further in a selection process that accommodations are available upon request in relation to the materials or processes to be used.
If a selected applicant requests an accommodation, TCSO will consult with the applicant and provide, or arrange for the provision of a suitable accommodation in a manner that takes into account the applicant’s accessibility needs due to disability.
Notice to Successful Applicants
When making an offer of employment, TCSO will notify the successful applicant of its policies for accommodating employees with disabilities.
Informing Employees of Support
TCSO will continue to inform its employees of its policies to support employees with disabilities, including policies on the provision of job accommodation that take into account an employee’s accessibility needs due to disability. This information will be provided to new employees as soon as possible after commencing employment.
Feedback and Improvement
We welcome feedback on the accessibility of our programs, services, and facilities. Feedback can be provided through various channels, including in person, by phone, email, or through our website. This feedback will be used to identify areas for improvement and to enhance the overall accessibility of our organization. The provision of accessible formats and communication support is available upon request.
